What Makes a Monster...

For the most part, playing a Promethean, rules are similar to Mortal. Where rules are not mentioned here or on the wiki in other places(like character creation), please refer to the Core Promethean and Chronicles of Darkness books. As items get addressed, they will also be added here. For now, these are the important elements adapted, changed, added or taken away.

TIME:

‡ Both a turn and a scene are in accordance with the book. A Chapter, however, is considered 1 Month. A Story is considered 3 Months time.

XP:

‡ On the first of every month you will be awarded 5XP to spend as you like. As long as you were sanctioned the following month, despite at what time in the month, you'll gain the following months XP hand out. If you are inactive for 2 weeks, however, you will be given a warning. 3 weeks of inactivity, without explanation, will remove you from the XP award on the following month.

DISQUIET:

‡The book has rules about triggers for Disquiet, Torment, and Wastelands. We will put those rules into full effect when dealing with Mortal NPC's. With PC's, however, it's of benefit to have a more streamlined rule in place. When a Promethean shows their disfigurement, or when a superntural merit is used on one, then follow the rules in the book for rolling. For base interactions, however, each time a mortal PC interacts with a Promethean PC, the following guide is to be followed:
1st Encounter: No Effect, do not need to document.
2nd Encounter: Roll Disquiet to see if Mortal gains the Disquiet Stage 1 Condition.(Promethean rolls Azoth vs Mortal's Resolve +composure). Document encounter and roll result.
3rd+ Encounter: Roll (Disquiet) and (Resistance at -1) to see if Mortal gains the condition. At this point, it may mean that Mortal gets the second stage of the condition. You must document this and all following encounters, and roll results. From here forward, every new interaction stacks the negative modifier for the Mortals resistance roll of (-1). Follow the phases of Disquiet condition, as per the book. For example; Red and Hallie meet for a 4th time, Hallie the Mortal is rolling her resistance at -2 as this is her 4th meeting. She gains her 1st Level of Disquiet Condition for failing the roll. The next time they meet, she will resist at -3, and potentially gain the second level of Disquiet condition if she fails. She will document this on her end, just as the Promethean player of Red will document on her end too.

SANCTUARY:

‡ St. James Parish is a Sanctuary Athanor, as per the book. The die pool for causing Disquiet is reduced to a chance die; rolls to resist Torment do not suffer the Promethean’s Azoth as a penalty. It also prevents Pandorans from discovering anyone near. The other Sanctuary is Hohenzollern Castle, but it is magnified and there are no effects of Disquiet, Torment, and Pandoran notice while within its walls for interaction purposes. Any show of Disfigurement or regular trigger would still be treated at regular Sanctuary rules. If a mortal comes to Hohenzollern, even when suffering the condition of Disquiet, the condition is temporarily eased while in Sanctuary. The condition is diminished by 1 Stage and this effect is permanent until a new encounter and roll are failed in the future. Each visit yields the same results.

REFINEMENTS:

‡ Due to the nature of an online 24/7 chat game with multiple players, we will not be able to follow the rules of Refinements as per the book. Though they are useful for a table top game, evolution of your Promethean would be severely limited in gaining new refinements if each PC had to fulfill multiple roles per refinement. As per the book, this will not be required to move on in your pilgrimage, but neither will it prevent you from using a Refinement Furnace to fix an alembic. I am willing to hand wave up to 2 of 3 roles, per refinement, as having been completed in the background or at a different time. I will be lenient in this as to allow successful New Dawn attempts and progress through Refinements. 1 Role per Refinement MUST be completed like a Milestone as per the book, however and this does not mean you can calcify the Alembics from Roles that were hand waved through.

BEATS:

‡ You can gain up to 10 beats per month. In this story beats will not be used to accumulate towards XP. Instead, beats will be replaced with a new mechanic. For every chapter(1 month play time) the accumulated beats you have earned will be traded at a 5:1 ratio for a EPIC point(1EP Instead of 1XP). During any scene of your choosing, you can trade in this Epic point towards doing something remarkable, self seeking, selfless or story driven. This spend is to be discussed with your ST before or during a scene in private message and must be agreed upon. Epic points cannot be played more than once per scene, and use of points is weighted towards benefiting a player who has not had opportunity to use them often, vs one who has. There is a chance not all players will get to use their point in a specific scene, at ST discretion. Epic points roll over into the next month's if not spent. On rare occasion, such as finale scenes to story arcs, or a personal scene of importance to you, more than one point may be allowed spent.

Epic points spend 'ideas' are not limited to the following, but here are some examples:

✠Performing a massive feat to save someone.
✠Performing a selfless act to emotionally affect another PC, NPC or collectivistic group(such as towards status, allies or contacts).
✠Pull off a fantastic stunt be it physical, social or intellectual (Auto-Exceptional).
✠Introduction of a NPC from your background, be they villain, hero or in between.
✠Bring in a contact, staff, retainer, ally, etc from your sheet to make motion happen in scene without having to work the mechanical side of rolls and pre-requisite work.
✠Obtaining a key plot item or clue necessary to a plot.
✠Creating a new story development to a plot be it positive or negative.
✠Creating a new background element to your own, another's(with permission) or an NPC's story (ST's discretion).
